In the coming weeks we will introduce you to the first in a series of applications designed to bring your favorite Internet show to you wherever you are. Netflix, Hulu, Food Network, HGTV and more, will be available on your Desktop, TV, and in your lap. The “Core” line of products will let you Watch Anywhere.

The first product in our “Core” line was tubeCore, the Internet DVR for PlayOn and Tversity that runs on Windows Media Center.

We are now introducing onCore, PlayOn for Your Desktop. Here are onCore’s features:

A deployment error lead to some serious problems in the last release of tubeCore. The short story is that our servers got hacked a few weeks ago (or, so we thought) and, in response, we locked down [...]]]> If you have gotten an “ERROR – PLEASE RETRY, Unspecified Error” message this latest release should address the issue.

A deployment error lead to some serious problems in the last release of tubeCore. The short story is that our servers got hacked a few weeks ago (or, so we thought) and, in response, we locked down everything we could. Doing this broke the deployment process which allowed a buggy piece of software to be included in the tubeCore release.

This has (hopefully) been all fixed.

Thanks for all of the immediate feedback, even if some of it was a little harsh It did help us track down the problem and fix it.

That was a drag.

We are now pleased to announce Full Windows Media Center Extender Support on Windows 7 in version 1.0 of tubeCore.

• Stable! A slew of bug fixes to make things run even more smoothly.

Requirements

• Windows Vista Ultimate or Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional
• The latest operating system updates from Microsoft
• A DLNA Server such as PlayOn, Tversity, or Twonky Media

Known Issues

• Very short videos or very small videos will not play. The playback buffer must fill up before playback starts and very short videos will not fill up the playback buffer. We know that this is an issue and will fix it in a later release.
• Sometimes when viewing a video that is streaming from the Internet the video playback engine can get ahead of the streaming engine. This can cause the “Video Bluescreen” with a message indicating that the video is in the wrong format. Use the “Skip Back” feature of your remote (or game controller) to skip backwards a few seconds, or rewind. It should play fine after that.
• YouTube video within PlayOn may have some playback problems. These same problems are found on the iPhone’s YouTube playback, so it is doubtful that this is a PlayOn or tubeCore issue.

As much as we love the idea (tubeCore is made to help you do this) it is kind of a strange move for a company that really really doesn’t want you to leave your cable connection behind. And they REALLY don’t want you to discover that Hulu has all of your favorite TV shows (even Speed Racer!) available for free.
